ABOUT THE GALLERY ATX

The Gallery ATX is a woman-powered, Austin-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization dedicated to platforming emerging artists and creatives from underrepresented communities. Founded in 2015 by Maria Romero, we've spent a decade building something rare: a gallery without walls, a community without gatekeepers, and a stage that keeps expanding.

In lieu of a physical space, we meet Austin where it is — through art markets, pop-up exhibitions, a feminist zine, short film festivals, and creative collaborations that bring diverse voices into the broader cultural conversation. Our programming is rooted in the belief that art is not a luxury but a connective tissue, and that the artists most deserving of visibility are often the ones with the least access to it.

Beyond exhibitions and events, we invest in the next generation of arts professionals — providing emerging curators, administrators, and strategists with real experience, real responsibility, and a community that has their back.

Ten years in, we're still independent, still artist-led, and still growing. Every market, every zine, every screening is proof that Austin's creative community shows up when you give it somewhere worth going.

Our mission: To provide opportunities for diverse, emerging artists and arts professionals to reach the broader Austin community through unique experiences.

Kennedy Swift (they/she) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Austin, Texas. Through painting, print, drawing, and fiber arts, they explore the relationship between the basic flesh-instincts of the body and the process of self-creation through the selective curation of histories and myth. Kennedy finished their BFA at Texas State University in 2020. They were awarded a fellowship in printmaking for Penland School of Craft’s Winter Residency in 2023. Since 2024 they have worked in close collaboration with The Gallery ATX and Mujer Manifesto, including co-curating Riot: Art as Resistance, a show benefitting the cause for Palestinian liberation.
